Year 1 and 2 Curriculum

Please click on the links below to view our Key stage 1 curriculum. Science, ICT, RE, PE and foundation subjects are taught on a 2 year rolling programme.

Learning to Read

Reading is the Key to Learning - this is how we develop reading at Pentland and how children can be supported at home.

Our Curriculum

In Year 1 and 2, we aim to deliver a creative curriculum that interests our children. We use our whole school topic to help us think of interesting titles and ensure we are covering all of the National Curriculum requirements. We then tailor these plans to suit our children.

Our Planet Topic Spring 2020

KS1 is happy to inform you that our new topic this term is ‘Our planet’. In this exciting topic, children will learn about environmental changes in the last 100 years, and delve into the first moon landing in History.  They will get creative in art and computing, as they design their very own aliens and space buggies. Children will then develop their construction skills and create their designed space buggies in D&T! We will explore new places using google earth and develop our navigation skills with compasses in Geography; let’s hope we don’t spot any aliens!

Finally, KS1 will be discovering different styles of music and how other cultures express themselves through music, and in PSHE we will be learning about how to look after our planet, care for the environment and ways in which we can reduce pollution! We know your children will thoroughly enjoy this terms topics as much as we will enjoy teaching them!
