We achieved the Eco-Schools Bronze Award!

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. The Bronze Award consists of a 7 step framework to encourage schools to do their bit to help the environment.

The 7 Step Framework

The Eco-Schools framework consists of seven elements:

1. Eco-Committee
2. Environmental Review
3. Action Plan
4. Involving the whole school and wider community
5. Linking to the curriculum
6. Monitoring and evaluation
7. Eco-Code

The framework supports schools working on different environmental and sustainable topics.

The Nine Eco-Schools Topics

As part of the Eco-Schools award, the Eco-Committee should consider the following topics:

1. Energy
2. Water
3. Biodiversity
4. School grounds
5. Healthy living
6. Transport
7. Litter
8. Waste
9. Global citizenship

Results of the Environmental Review

After carrying out the Environmental Review, it was decided that the school should focus on reducing energy consumption and water waste. In order to achieve these targets, the Eco-Councillors designed posters to put up in each class to remind children and teachers to turn off lights and electrical devices when not in use, and to turn off dripping taps when they are not in use.
